France still is the undisputed number one tourist destination on the planet. France is famous for its architecture, art, Alps, cuisine, fashion, literature, wine, etc.

We have visited France 9 times together and a couple of times individually. Totally, we have spent more than 6 months each travelling around France. Nevertheless, we have typically stayed for longer periods of time (1-3 weeks) in the same city/village in our family camping wagon and done several side trips to nearby towns, nature sites and attractions. In addition, we have done some inter-railing and bus-trips around France on our own.

Eventually we will post pictures and some text on our traveling in France; however destinations outside Europe deserve our foremost interest.

Some well-known places of interest we have visited

Paris, Orléan, Royan, La Rochelle, Rocamadour, Versailles, Strasbourg, Dordogne and Toulouse.

More unknown places of interest we have visited

Peronne, Chartres, La Charriere, Amboise, Whir-au-Wal, Bolis, Montargis, Eclaron, Lac Blanc, Ile d’Oléron, Carlucet and Souillac.

Highlights

·         Trekking in Alsace (2000, 1997, 1995, 1993, 1992, 1991, 1989)

·         Total solar eclipse near Versailles (2000)

·         Lake Annecy (1995)

·         Chamonix (1996)

·         Royan (1996, 1992 ,1990)

·         Paris (2008, 2002, 1996, 1995)

Future places to go in France

We will probably go to mainland France every once in a while, especially because two of our childhood-friends have moved to France permanently (Sune and Troels). Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea is also a place we want to go.

In addition, we would both like to visit all of France’s oversea territories and departments:

·         Guadeloupe

·         Martinique

·         French Guiana

·         Reunion

·         New Caledonia

·         Wallis and Futuna

·         Mayotte

·         St. Pierre and Miquelon

·         And – ultimately - Kerguelen

Fast facts and hints

Daily budget: On the cheap: 40 Euro; more activities: 60-70 Euro

Pros: Great nature and food

Cons: It’s not exactly the cheapest country in Europe...

In a nutshell: Most visited country in the world
