In Europe, Germany is the largest economy, the second most populous country and the seventh-largest by size. We have been driving through Germany more than 10 times on our way to France, Spain or Italy. Nevertheless, we have not spent so much time in Germany in terms of sightseeing. Honestly, we have never been interested in traveling that much in Germany – perhaps due to the fact that we have always wanted to visit more exotic countries. Otherwise, it’s because of the “neighbor-hood syndrome”, namely that you tend not to visit neighbor countries thoroughly but instead just “drive through”. This is a pity, given that Germany offers a dramatically changing topography, fairytale Castles and forests, medieval villages and countless festivals across the country.

Eventually we will post pictures and some text on our traveling in Germany; however, destinations outside Europe deserve our foremost interest.

A few highlights in Germany

·         One week in Berlin (1999)

·         One week in Regensburg (1998)

·         Oktoberfest in Munich (1999)

·         Camping in Schleswig-Holstein in autumn and spring (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001)

·         A couple of days in Hamburg (2002)

Future places to go in Germany

To be honest, Germany deserves “a chance”; some day, Germany deserves at least a one month visit. E.g. it would be cool to explore the Bavarian Alps and summit the highest peak in Germany, Zugspitze.

Fast facts and hints

Daily budget: On the cheap: 30-50 Euro; more activities: 50-80 Euro

Pros: History, castles, beer gardens, medieval towns...

Cons: Not that many beaches; Un-exotic atmosphere...

In a nutshell: “Ordnung muss sein”
